CMYK Colors:

CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black) color model is usually required when submitting a drawing electronically for printed press publication. EazyDraw provides full support and many helpful tools for managing CMYK colors. Inspect the precise color model in use for any color on the drawing, or map an entire layer from RGB to CMYK.

Outline Text:

Typeset text often needs to be converted to Bezier outlines before submitting to an outside printing company. This prevents problems with fonts and cross platform issues. EazyDraw can convert all text to Bezier outlines, the conversion is very precise, all exact typesetting metrics are strictly honored.

EPS Export:

EPS (Encapsulated Postscript) is a widely accepted vector graphics format. All professional publishers, printers, and print advertisers accept EPS. EazyDraw's EPS export provides the needed capability to Export colors as CMYK, or RGB with or without alpha channel information.

Simple to Learn and Use:

EazyDraw and the modern Mac technology make these professional activities a snap. Map a layer or entire drawing to CMYK and you are able to work with a good visual representation of the published colors. After the design is complete, outline the text with a simple menu command and export an EPS file that will be compatible with Windows or any other operating system.

CMYK Preview
Computer monitors use RGB (Red, Green, Blue) color model. This is fine if the resulting graphics are viewed on a computer screen. CMYK is required for printing. Mapping from one model to the other will result in significant color and shade changes. EazyDraw allows you design in CMYK so there are no surprises with the final results.
Typesetting and Flow
EazyDraw connects you to OS X's powerful typesetting technology. Fine tune your design with kerning, leading, and ligatures. Full unicode support with inspection of individual glyphs ensures the integrity of your design as it passes through a publishers work flow.
Pro Grade TIFF
Export TIFF and JPG with full control over pixel resolution (DPI) and image size. The TIFF export supports both RGB and CMYK color models with or without alpha channel. Generate a dual representation TIFF with a single click of a check box. Import bitmaps into EazyDraw, convert color model (e.g. RGB to CMYK) export for pre press use.
EazyDraw download is a 13 meg universal binary optimized for both the Intel and PowerPC Mac processors, run on Leopard or Tiger, Panther and Jaguar version available
The download is a disk image file (dmg), its size is 23 Meg.

Color Models

Computer monitors emit color as red, green, and blue light. For computer monitor drawing, a color is specified by summing these 3 components.

In contrast, inked paper absorbs light leaving the remaining components of the incident white light to generate a color. Cyan, magenta, yellow and black (k) pigments serve as the absorbing filters of the printed page. Each subtracts varying degrees of red, green and blue from white light to produce a gamut of spectral colors.

Each of these color generating techniques will generate millions of shades and hues of colors - but not all possible colors. Contrary to intuition, the possible colors generated by additive (RGB) and subtractive (CMYK) techniques are not the same. The differences between colors generated by the two techniques are subtle but conversion from RGB to CMYK will produce quite noticeable color shifts on the viewed artwork.

Interesting Note

A common question from Mac users, relating to the system color picker, is why do some colors have a small gray triangle in the top right corner of a color well. This triangle indicates that a color is non-RGB, usually either CMYK or a Gray scale one-component color. EazyDraw goes this one better, pause the cursor over any color well and a tool tip will popup with a note indicating the color model for the color, the "Web Hex Notation" for the color and the numerical values for each component. This is a useful tool when working on a pre-press project.
